Many years ago, my friends and I came from Minnesota and went to the Chicago Blues festival. We heard Taj Mahal and bunch of other greats. But the best was listening to Jr. Wells and Buddy play. We heard that Buddy was opening a club that night called “Buddy Guy’s Legends”. We cut the festival short, got something to eat and made it over there before the crowd. I bought a shirt. We sat at a table right up front. When it got packed, people were sitting, bunched together on the dance floor in front of us. I’ll never forget when Buddy played “Knock On Wood”. Right before Buddy’s guitar break, a stagehand came onto the stage carrying a ton of cable for Buddy’s guitar. He hooked up to it and went out into the crowd. He worked his way through and played to everyone! Then he went out of the building, still playing wild, still playing “Knock On Wood”! When he came back in, everyone went nuts! I’ve been a huge fan ever since. I just thought I’d share that. Is there any way I can get tickets for the 700 club’s opening night? I know it’s going to be amazing.

Hey Buddy! I was front row center at your show with B.B. King last night in Minneapolis at the Orpheum theatre, and what an incredible show!!! You never sounded better and you always give your all for your fans! That is what makes you the Greatest!!! And thank you for the guitar pick you gave me at the end! You will always be the Best to me!

Coming to your show with BB King on February 20th and we can’t wait! Seeing different reviews with set lists and hoping we’ll hear Man of Many Words – it’s one of my faves. You always put on an AWESOME show and I even hooked my sister on you now. You’re a man for the ages and I feel so fortunate to be able to see you again in concert (I saw you at the MN State Fair too.) God bless and keep you on your travels! See you soon from the 8th row!
Loving the new website. Best Layout so far. Also looking forward to the new location. I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to play on the 754 stage. I hope to play the 700 stage in the future. Maybe I will. The new location will feel somewhat the same I think, as it’s so close to the current location. Love ya Buddy Guy & Legends!

greetings from minneapolis, mn. i had to come to your club one more time before you moved so me and a friend drove there on monday, jan. 18th (martin luther king jr. day) and got a table, had some great food, and awaited the blues music to begin. i looked over to the bar and there sat buddy. i got the courage up to go talk to him and had a nice chat about the new club location and asked him if he would sign my pickguard off of my guitar. i could see he was tired and feeling wore out from the buddy show there the night before, but he was nice enough to sign it anyway. thank you buddy for making my last visit to your old club location very memorable and i will definately come visit you at the new location down the block!!!! i dont care what anyone says about you letting success go to your head or forgetting your fans, you proved to me that BUDDY GUY STILL CARES!!!! GOD BLESS YOU AND GOOD LUCK AT THE NEW PLACE!!!!

hey buddy – i’d first like to wish you a very happy anniversary! i’m a native chicagoan and have been frequenting your club for MANY years. i love seeing you perform wherever, but there’s just something about seeing you play your own club that’s just amazing! i’d also like to extend my condolences on the passing of your dear friend, koko – another great chicago blues legend. she certainly earned her title ‘QUEEN OF THE BLUES’. she will surely be missed down here but just think of the party that’s goin on up there! well, thanks & see you on the 16th! I’ve been following Buddy Guy for 25 years. Barely out of high school, my older brother and I used to take the Blue Line downtown from the Lombard stop in south Oak Park where we grew up. I actually taught John how to play guitar after teaching myself. We figured Blues was the best music in the world. Going to Legends was a mysterious journey. In those days, you didn’t know what you might find in the neighborhood around Legends. It was a right of manhood to make the trip. I remember many a show. Something special happened nearly every time. Buddy Guy Blues has taught me how to really live, with screaming passion and heart-felt sincerity. Over my life, I’ve tried to improve my own blues guitar playing and I’ve taught others for nothing more than a hand shake. I’ve had the privilege of shaking Buddy’s deep, strong hand (that’s all I ever hoped for). It’s hard being a Blues man. Buddy, I will do what I can to keep the Blues alive. I listen to all your work (actually I am crazy over old school Blues – your recommendations), and I deeply appreciate what you have given this world. Thank you. I will be on the Blue Line again come this Blues Fest ‘09.

Buddy Guy/ Crossroads III
I loved to see Buddy Guy play at the two crossroads festivals. The thought ocurred to me that the first time I saw Buddy play was at a place called the Pavilion in NYC (site of the 1964 World’s Fair). He opened for Led Zepplin on either their first or second American tour (I think first, becasue they played all their stuff from the first album.)I remember that Mr. Guy played Sunshine of Your Love. He placed the back end of his guitar on the stage, held the neck with his fretting hand and used a white handkerchief to play the song. It was AWESOME! Since we know that Eric Clapton will do another Crossroads festival and since you know he will invite Buddy again, I think it would be most appropriate for Buddy Guy to play Sunshine of you Love the same way he did it back then, at the next Crossroads fetival. Very cool tribute to Eric Clapton. Can we get behind this, people??? This idea needs the kind of traction only the internet can provide. Grass Roots. Please let’s get behind this.

I came back from Iraq torn apart in 2005 and somebody handed me a Buddy CD, ever since then, I have been a new man! I met Buddy by chance at legends last December while visiting the fiance’s family in IL and it was one of the happiest moments of my life!

Dear Buddy,
I am a 26 year old woman who never in my life really listened to The Blues. I live in Columbus, Ohio where you played this past weekend on 2-27-09 at the LC Pavilion. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and will never ever forget it. I was standing 10 ft. from Buddy Guy. My husband is a major fan and what an honor to be able to listen to the great Buddy Guy upclose. Buddy, your smile is most beautiful and when I would see you smile many times that night, with our country the way it is your smile says “It will all be okay”! Marty you rock! SKIN DEEP!
Hello from Wisconsin,
My mom, Rhonda Blair, used to manage a blues club in Chicago Heights, IL called Jim Shooze. She performed with Buddy guy in the late 90’s, early 2000’s and said there was a video tape of it. I was wondering if anyone knows of any video archives from Legends before they moved. (She said she thinks they moved). That would be really great to find! Anyway, love the music and Legends is awesome.

Thank You Buddy for being such an great role model for kids . Buddy went out into the crowd and found my 9 year grandson which he had autographed his guitar for and put him on stage to play along with him . He wants to grow up to be a great guitarist like Buddy Guy . That was a dream come true for him . Thanks You ! Buddy

You sang to me in Chattanooga, it pleased me so much
as far as buddy signing after a show, he could just walk out the door and go home, after playing he always goes and sign i am sure he gets tired and everyone wanting something different cut the man some slack he pours his soul out on stage and then saturday night he had his shoe top cut out because he has gout and still put on the best show of the year then he goes over and signs for 20 plus minutes
I love you, Buddy Guy, I have all of your CD and recordings.

We are from PA and attended two (2)shows; l/21/09 and 1/24/09!!!! What can we say? TOTALLY AWESOME!!!! We didn’t get autographs the first night, but Saturday we were first in line and he signed three autographs for us and he said please come back and see us again. We certainly will without any hesitation. We just wish there was more seating as it’s hard to stand for 6 or more hours at a time, but for “Buddy Guy” it’s worth it. We will see him in April in Greensburg, PA which is a stones throw from where we live. Can’t wait. Thanks to the staff at Legends for a well organized show.

I absolutely agreed with Leonards comment. My husband and I travelled from London, UK to see Buddy on Friday January 23, 2009. We paid USD103 for two tickets (we had to pay a surcharge for buying tickets in the UK – that smacks of discrimination to me) and didn’t even get a proper ticket just an email confirmation. We arrived at Legends at 4pm (we wanted to get seats) and spent all afternoon ordering (and paying for) food and drink, oh and we also bought a t-shirt each. We didn’t buy the CD’s because we’ve already got them. I made a point of asking the Legends staff if I could have a ticket as a souvenir but was told that I couldn’t have one, but look out for people dropping them on the floor – I could pick up one of those. At the end of an amazing show everyone queued up and Buddy signed tickets and posed for photos. When we got to the front of the line we asked Buddy to sign the Legends newsletter but were told in no uncertain terms that he wouldn’t sign that, he would only sign our tickets. I then produced my email confirmation sheet (that was the closest I had to a ticket) but Buddy himself told me he wouldn’t sign that. I explained the situation, that I’d come from England and didn’t have a ticket but was told that he didn’t care where I came from if I wanted an autograph I would have to buy some merchandise. We then asked Buddy to sign the t-shirts that we’d bought earlier, but I felt completely ripped off – our tickets cost over and above those of everyone else’s and we’d paid over USD2000 to get from the UK!!!! The whole experience left a really bad taste in my mouth and I can’t help feeling discrimated against.

I’ve been a fan of Buddys for 20 years, purchased every cd and been to at least 15 shows. Well Buddy you lost a great fan. I was at legends 1/22 show and my friend saw Buddy standing by his merchandise after the show and politely asked him for his autograph and Buddy rudely said I’m tired of signing tickets why don’t you buy something. I was thinking hey she just payed $50.00 for that ticket to see you on a Thursday night. He made a loyal fan feel like crap.I respect his privacy and would never bother him on the street, but come on we just payed good money in this crap economy to see you. If you did not want to sign any autographs you could of just told her not tonight. It looks like Buddy finally let his fame go to his head. Just remember if it wasn’t for SRV and Clapton and all the new fans they helped you get in the 80’s you would be as unknown as many of the other great Blues legends. Hey Buddy thanks for giving us the Blues. You saved me the long ride down from Fox Lake next Winter.

Just Loved my experience at legends. I was in Chicago a few years ago for a week & had lunch there nearly every day. I was a little disapointed in the fact that Saturday night Hubert Sumlin was scheduled to play but was ill & Pinetop Perkins filled in…. How cool was that. Buddy was at the bar that night and I got to talk to him about his playing and guitars and such. It was a very memorable evening. I look forward to doing it again.
I heard you guys were going to close? Whats up with that!

My wife, kids and I saw Buddy Guy perform in Wichita, KS, last night (12/13/08) and it was wonderful. Truly amazing music. My kids, daughters 13 and 9, loved it and have been listening to Buddy Guy CDs all day today. While Buddy was walking through the audience playing, he ran into my younger daughter, and he held her hand and strummed his guitar with her index finger as he played. She’s in awe of him, and since then she’s refused to wash her hand.
Thank you, Buddy. It really was great. I’m trying to introduce my kids to blues. I want them to understand where rock came from.
I saw Buddy perform a couple of weeks ago in Tarboro NC of all places! Thanks to Edgecomb Community College/Mr.Eric Greene and ThankYou to Buddy and All his crew!

Hi,
I’ve been to the Legend last year in Feb. and got a chance to speak to Buddy for the second time. Last time was 35 years when he was touring France. Feb session was a great time: he even tuned up with the guest on stage. I am a blues drummer and used to organise a blues festival in France who already hosted Lit’l Ed, Eddy Clearwater and John Primer (2008) who be will first part on Buddy’s gig in January 09. I really hope you never stop….Go on, it’s always a real pleasure and a privilege to be able to hear you all. Buddy, in your last “Blues Again” interview, you mentionned your favourite hobby was to sit down in your bar and speak with everybody, with a special mention for the French people: we did it, man; we did it. Thank you with all my respect….
In March, 2008, I visited Legends for the first time. I was in Chicago visiting some friends with a half dozen fellow Pittsburghers. We were halfway finished eating our killer food from the menu, when my friend’s wife said, “who is that at the bar?”. I turned and looked…at it was Buddy Guy himself! The thought that Buddy, a LEGEND to anybody that loves the blues, was sitting there, 30 feet from me, was incredible. And I, being a blues guitar man, and Buddy Guy disciple, decided that I HAD to introduce myself and shake his hand. Buddy was extremely gracious and accommodating. He thanked us for visiting Legends, and actually told us that he always enjoyed playing in Pittsburgh, and even mentioned a few venues in which he had played. On the way out, he thanked us again for coming. What a great man! Buddy doesn’t NEED to sit and thank people at his place, but he does because he is truly connected with his audience.

It was a dream come true to just walk in, I hope to visit again very soon with a friend as a guide that knows Buddy well, maybe I will get to thank him (Buddy) for not only all the music, but for inspiring so many little boys like me to pick up the guitar.
I DO hjope Rich Diamond can help me meet you, and thank you Buddy.

Buddy, I am from the small town of Cottonport,LA, which is only a few miles from Lettsworth, your home town. Big brim in Innis! I was in your club on Friday, October 17th, and got to see Stan and McCray play. Without a doubt, some of the best guitar playing I have heard in a long time. Being a guitar player, you can say this was the highlight of my trip and I could not get enough. I have always enjoyed your music and I think your place is probably the last real blues club left in this country. Hopefully, I’ll catch you the next time you are in Baton Rouge. Thank you for giving the world your music. God Bless.

BB”s the King, but Buddy’s the BEST! I’ve been saying that for years. When Buddy comes down from the stage, and lets a kid bang on his guitar strings while he fingers the frets. Magic happens. You know without a doubt that you are in the presence of a pure guitar genius. Like a previous commentor, I have to say that Buddy can bring me to tears. When he says shhh listen now listen, I get an instant lump in my throat. Big venue or little club, the sound from his guitar goes straight to your heart. Seven or eight years ago my wife and I saw Buddy play a short afternoon set at Legends during the Blues Fest. Second row table, front and center. Cold beer and live Buddy are the ultimate blues combination. We stopped at the counter by the front door to buy souvenir shirts and there was Buddy standing there keeping an eye on things. My wife caught his eye and said “Do you work here?” With that big smile of his he looked her in the eye and gave her a long, low, drawn out, Yeahhhh! We all laughted. Unable to think of anything else to say to a legend, we gave hime the obligatory “We Love You Buddy”, and shuffled back to our table. (2nd row center) We will never forget it.
We can’t wait to see you again, and of course, we love you Buddy!

Skin Deep is amazing. The message is powerful and the timing is perfect. I hope that many will listen to the message, and give Buddy the recognition he has worked so hard to obtain all these years.
Thanks for giving so much life, energy and genuineness to the blues.

Buddy,
I was very sorry to have learned of the passing of your brother Phil. Brother’s are a very special thing and it saddens me to think of ever parting with mine. My brother is who 1st introduced me to the Blues (my 1st Stevie Ray Vaughn concert at age 15) and later, to you and your music. That is what brothers do. I have visited with you and chatted with you at your club a few times. I have a favorite memory of chatting with you at the bar for a little while before a Shamika Copeland show on Thanksgiving eve. I met one of your nephews at one of your January shows a few years ago. He was a nice kid and I enjoyed chatting with him. He asked if I had ever seen Phil play and I told him I hadn’t. He said I really needed come see him play and I never did. I wish I would have. Buddy, my heart aches for you and for Phil’s family. Peace be with you.

Hi! I’ve been to the Legend last feb 2008 and had the chance to chat with Buddy. It was great. Music there was brillant and still is I imagine. I am from France and in charge of a Blues festival. Maybe one day Buddy could come over. The new album is a real pleasure. Thank you Buddy.
I met Phil and Buddy @ legends over 15 years ago. I was also fortunate enough to know Buddy, we talked at his birthday party prior to him playing at Alpine b-4 Stevie Ray’s accident. Durning this time I was w/the love of my life which I have also lost. So I know that Phil, Lefty and my Tommy Macias are all together having a great time. The time at Legends w/ Phil & Buddy is something i still brag about today. My prayers are with you and your family. All my love, Kathy Hibbler

Dear Buddy,

I attended the show at the MN State Fair last night. It was so great to see and hear Buddy. I just don’t know why they booked the other two acts…just were not up to Buddy’s caliber or style. So thanks for a great show and wish it could of gone on much, much longer.

Living in Chicago for twenty years and going to Legends for most of that time I have many memories of Legends but the one I always tell people is the one that I think best describes Buddy Guy. My friend and I stopped off at Legends after a White Sox game one night. We had been drinking at the game and my friend was pretty drunk by the time we got there. After about an hour my friend was falling down and it was time to get him home. We made our way to the door and I noticed Buddy standing and talking to the doorman, Buddy looked at me and said “were you goin, it’s early” I said my friend was to drunk to stay and I was taking him home. Buddy says “hold on” and tells the doorman to give us back our cover charge. That’s the story I tell everyone here in California when they ask about blues in Chicago and that Buddy will steal your girl if you don’t watch out.

Britt Oregon and the Kingdom
The Harleys rumbled through the second lesson this morning at St. Mark’s – sending me to last night’s Britt twin billed event with Buddy Guy and George Thorogood and the Destroyers. The gospel from Matthew 13 spoke of the Kingdom of God in parable form – the mustard seed that grows into a tree for birds; the woman who puts yeast to flour and makes abundant bread; the treasure hidden under our noses; the pearl for which we would sell all we have to possess; angels gone into fish sorting; etc.
About half way through the sermon, I began to get the rector’s challenge –we can see the Kingdom right now. I thought that sometimes it comes like a tiny spark that can grow a 1000 fires in place like California. I get it, kind of, anyway. For me the rumbling bikes reminded me of a group of bikers up from CA for the show – find a great spot to settle in beneath one of the great trees on the Britt Hill – and one coming over to ask the Event Staff guy a question: How do we reserve the Blue tarps? And the nice chat that followed.
George’s following is part Biker, part Boomer, (and some of the Boomer’s Kids) and college agers who just love his hard driving, raunchy, chest pounding sound and lyrics. They were all there – some with faded tattoos to match fading physiques and hair, some in face paint, some with their 24 year old daughters, teeny boppers on a birthday binge – with mom wishing she had not said yes, yes, yes sir-ee. They were all there – a regular cross section of the Kingdom; rich and poor, slim and fat, handsome and not so handsome, good dancers and afraid to move – they all showed up and sold out the hill with 2200 + all us volunteers.
Pastor Rick calls the service to order, invoking those gathered to mind their public manners which hardly anyone gets to practice anymore. Britt is public space – talker and cell phonies to the side, please – make good decisions about spirits and help us keep Britt as the only place in Oregon where you can bring your own. Patrons have pulled together to get one more friend into the area with wrist band only protection – they have pulled their blankets and chairs to squeezing in a biker or two or college kid and his girl friend here and there – there is a closeness growing – the yeast has been fermenting – the bread is on its way.
Buddy appears with the sun still hot on the stage – and he adds more heat and more closeness. After a song or two Buddy angels his way into the crowd with only a blacked out stage hand porting a mic for when Buddy wants to sing. Buddy understands the Kingdom at the soul level and his first stop off the stage is to a young guy stretched out in a quad powered wheelchair in the handicapped section. We all feel it as he smiles so broadly his face comes near breaking when Buddy gets him to strum a few on his wireless empowered strings. This sends the audience into teary eyed frenzy but Buddy is not done. The first – those with bucks and those with time – are soon to be last as Buddy winds his way up the hill with more than a few bows and pats to say later they touched an angel. About half way Buddy rambles behind the sound booth blocking the view of the privileged and gives the rest of us the best he has to offer – that’s what angels do in the Kingdom. The mustard seed seats have grown into a front row action and Buddy loves it and so do we. All too soon he has to go (after all, even John Travolta’s Michael got called in after a while). Buddy has done his Kingdom work for the night – the patrons run for the broken down toilets, the unhealthy oiled up popcorn, the high fructose sweetened ice-cream and the $30 bottles of whine (and I do mean whine). I guess it doesn’t matter what you eat in the Kingdom – we are in God’s hands tonight.
Half time on sold out nights (SO for short on the event staff cheat sheet) is quickly becoming one big “meet and greet” – folks are hugging and handshaking from one end to other. People on inside blankets are doing their best to fairy step their way to an aisle. Kids sitting so long (3 minutes maximum) are stretching their legs and their lungs…yowie! the Kingdom is in full participatory mode and spirits are rising and other spirits are being downed at kingdom sized rates.
All of which sets the stage for “GT and D” or George Thorogood and the (Delaware) Destroyers. George tells us right off that we are in for a nasty time. Now I know that dualists might call that an angel followed by the devil. Jesus understood nasty – he got lots of criticism for hanging with “nasty.” Tax collectors and prostitutes… Mustard, you see, is a weed, a nasty invasive weed, and in the Kingdom it shows up as an unexpectedly vigorous bush in those fine cultivated fields – weeds in great numbers. George’s energy and music is like that – it pounds – grows like weeds in our heads – it soars – it inspires – it inspires some to Bourbon, Scotch, Beer and others to a weed of another sort but only one of these is legal at Britt.
George is a player and tonight he is hitting home runs and not in minor leagues, either. George has been playing the Big Show for a long time; he and the Destroyers have been together a long time and it shows. This is the George that gave up a promising baseball career and spent everything he had on a chance to make his Music. It’s the pearl of great value thing. George gave his all for the chance to make music and gives his all every time he’s on stage – it’s why he sells out – living in the Kingdom even for 3 1/2 hours is so intoxicating, so wonderful, we can overlook our differences and groove together to the music.
But music of another sort, the into to Recessional Hymn #615 brings me back to St. Marks. The Harleys have probably recessed half way to Shasta by now. Randomly, I think that I am glad that at our church we willing to use word recession (or at least a form of it). Then 615 intones, “’Thy Kingdom Come’ on bended knee the passing ages pray and faithful souls have yearned to see on earth that kingdom’s day.” I realize that I have seen on earth that kingdom’s day – or at least a glimpse of that kingdom’s night – through God’s angels, Buddy and George on Britt hill.
As Dr. Peggy slips into the postlude, Walther’s Allegro (Concerto in b minor) on the massive St. Mark’s pipe organ, it comes to me that she is our GT of the pipe organ, playing with an intensity that George and The Destroyers would appreciate. For when it comes down to it we are all angels of one sort on another at least in Kingdom of music and light.

I saw Buddy at the Little Creek Casino near Shelton Wa. Friday the twenty fifth of July 2008.What a great show.He sure knows how to get a crowd pumped up walking around like he does while playing.George Thorogood played also. But nobody can make a Fender sing like the Great Buddy Guy.The Blues had a baby and they named it Rock and Roll.Long live the Blues.

I was watching Glastonbury on TV over the weekend, furious that Buddy was put on so late. He should have headlined the frastival on the main stage, his live performance for me was the best of the weekend.

Saw your gig in Manchester UK last week. Absolutely awsome!! Better than ever. Long may you reign Buddy. Apologies for the bonehead in the audience who heckled you. Hope you don’t think we are all like that in the UK! Looking forward to seeing you at Glastonbury.

I went to the Glasgow (Scotland) gig last night (great front row seat) and having been a huge fan since the early 80’s and seen Buddy several times in the UK and at Legends, I can honestly say that last night was a disgrace. Buddy hardly played guitar. The phrase ‘help me out here’ was used several times to his excellent sideman. But it was Buddy Guy we paid to hear. And then to slouch off without giving even a single encore!?! Buddy is my all-time favourite electric guitar player, but this was a shadow of his former great self. Buddy, if you want to get drunk, get drunk – but don’t charge your genuine fans for the questionable privilege of watching you do it. I won’t be back and I am not the only one who feels like that, judging by some of the comments I heard outside the venue last night. Can’t Quit The Blues? You did last night.

Visited Legends this past Friday (6/20) to get some grub and hear the acoustical set. Come to find out Buddy Guy was to be in town and at Legends that evening. We had a little bit of a dilema…..I wanted to stay and meet him of course, but I had my 13 year old son, and so we needed to exit by 8:00. Anyway long story short, we caught up with Buddy Guy around 9:30 and got to meet him and get a couple of autographs. I’m not big into bothering celebrities for autographs and very few I would take the time to bother. But Mr Guy is the exception and as nice as ever, as he didn’t seem to mind me shoving a pen in his face not more than 30 seconds after he parked his car. One of the most memorable moments of my life….and I haven’t stopped bragging about it. So, Buddy, thanks very much for your time, conversation, and signature. They will all be savored.
Dan
ps The 13 year old can’t wait to see you in concert.

Hey! Buddy Guy you are my biggest inspiration, I am at the age of 15 now, and only 1 and a half year a go I couldn’t do anything with the guitar. You are the best blues guitarist in the world! Once I saw you play that Polka dot stratocaster on the concert “Lightning In a Bottle”, my mind was set! I wanted to play guitar. Thanks to you I have learned it a lot faster than I thought it would be. Will you ever come visit Norway again? I hope so. sincerely
- Your friend Anders from Norway.

Hey! BG, I just want you to know that you’re my biggest idol! For me, you are the best guitar player in the world! I remember when I was at the age of 14, I am 15 now, I saw you on the TV playing at the concert “Lightning in a bottle”, playing Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House” and “Voodoo Child”. Once you laid your hands on that polka dot Stratocaster, my mind was set, I also wanted to that, or at least try. So my parents bought me a cheap Squire stratocaster to begin with, later on I saved up money to buy your signature Fender stratocaster with polka dots. Today, 1 and a half year later, I can jam along with your songs and play solo’s, it have been a lot of hard hours struggling, but I have been wise, I have taken up on the tips you gave on your Blues-guitar DVD, and with you, Mr. Buddy Guy as my inspiration I think I have learned things quite faster than others.. I chosed the BLUES as my main genre, and I’m sticking with it, because of you, and because I want to. So, thank you very much for being such an inspirational person in my life.
and oh, will you ever come visit Norway again? You have played at the notodden blues festival am I right? : )
Sorry for leaving such a long comment.
Thank you- Anders M.P

Buddy Guy:
The day you came to play
Down St. Augustine way
Twas a beautiful day
And you stole the sun’s rays
The sea breeze caressed
as you played your tunes
On a warm Summer’s night
the way it feels in June
You played and you sang
And you shared your life
With outright abandon
You made me feel alright
In your sounds was my heart
And free I became
And me and the folks there
We all felt the same
When you left the stage
I felt the power all ’round
Now all I wants to know
When you coming back to my town!
God bless you and keep you
You’re one of a kind
Thank you, my friend

Hey Buddy Guy fans/beer drinkers,
I bought a case of Miller high life yesterday and discovered that buying a case gets you points that you can redeem online for music downloads. What really matters is that they have tracks up by Buddy Guy.

I’m sitting here in Rancho Mirage, CA out in the blazing sun of the Southern California desert, enjoying the great blues of Otis Taylor from Buddy Guy’s Legends….It’s a frigging great mix….the closest thing to actually being there….Congratulations to my old friend Norm Winer for some great blues programming
I am 19 years old from Birmingham, AL; I will be playing at the upcoming citystages. That same night you will be playing. I am looking forward to meeting you if it is possible. I’ve been playing the blues for two years and you are one of my top influenes. I’ve even been known to jam on some of your songs; I have played with an artist by the name of Scott Holt. I 2nd Iron Man Michael Burk’s new album is one of the best Blues albums to come out in a while. Empty Promises is the shit!
Here’s what George Thorogood’s guitarist Jim Suhler said about Buddy. That’s some disrespect.
I’ll take Elvin over Buddy Guy. Elvin’s band is a true ensemble, rather than a rhythm guitarist, drummer & basist simply backing a frontman.

I’ve been a blues/funk/jamband/jazz fan for years. I’m originally from Little Rock, AR so Memphis being two hours away was nice. Yet no one single musician has brought me to tears out of sheer heart-felt happiness & utter amazement. The ability of Buddy Guy to build a song to a schorching hight singing & playing, then drop it down to a whisper inomprehensible! Smokydogjoe I met Michael Burks at a blues festival in Helena,AR 7 years ago. By now there’s no telling what that man is capable of! All in all Chi vs Delta cant say overall but BUDDY like Clapton quoted “He’s the greatest guitar player living.” THE BEST

nevertheless i’ve had the pleasure of visiting legends a few years ago. i was excited to finally see Lil’ Ed perform. i had been listening to his band since roughousin’. Ron Prince and the hard time opened up and Eric Noden was earlier in the evening…Ron Prince stole the night and i felt comfortable in approaching him to let him know. i remember my wife leaning towards me and saying (while Prince was jamming) “you know i’m not a blues fan but this guy is fucking awsome”…that does not go without saying that Lil’ Ed was great…but he was no Ron Prince…PLEASE BRING BACK THE FORUMS!!!

I visited The Legends during the Chicago Bluesfest in 2005. It was fantastic to be there. A dream became reality. There were a lot of famous bluesartists in the club that evening. I stood next to Buddy and did not dare to talk to him On the parking at the back i met RBB Ronny Baker Brooks. I asked and got his pick after the performance! This Year (2008) I am looking forward to visit the Legends again, now with 8 friends from Holland (The Netherlands) on the night before this years 25th Chicago bluesfestival. We hope to meet Buddy and hear-see him play the blues.

Well Buddy, I feel like im talkin to a friend!… in about five hours time i’ll be jammin to you and Mr. BB King at the Mid America Center in Councle Bluffs, Iowa. I cant tell you how excited I am to see you again! Ive seen you about four or five times ( the first time at the bumbershoot festival in Seattle) and you never dissapoint thats for sure. I love what you do and most of all what you bring to the blues scene! All I can say is God bless you for just being you and may your Brother phil,( who i had the chance to meet and chat with at your club) rest in peace! I and my girl along with countless others love you and your music! P.S. your band rocks too! Im from lincoln, Nebraska, Remember the Zoo Bar….come on back some time! peace brother!!!
Buddy it was really great photographing you backstage in miami. here are a few faces of a legend, enjoy, david j.

hey buddy – i’d first like to wish you a very happy anniversary! i’m a native chicagoan and have been frequenting your club for MANY years. i love seeing you perform wherever, but there’s just something about seeing you play your own club that’s just amazing! i’d also like to extend my condolences on the passing of your dear friend, koko – another great chicago blues legend. she certainly earned her title ‘QUEEN OF THE BLUES’. she will surely be missed down here but just think of the party that’s goin on up there! well, thanks & see you on the 16th! Peace ~ Melanie

I have all of your CD’s and recordings. Keep up the great work
I love you, Buddy Guy, I have all of your CD and recordings.
ALBUQUERQUE NEW MEXICO IN DA HOUSE!
OK it is Sat and went to Legends Thursday and Friday night, I just do not see how it could get any better. Buddy Guy has never let his fans down. This is a trip i will never forget thanks to the staff at legends, the food, the music, I can say for sure does not get any better. Get there early tables fill up and it is standing room only. I just do not have the words to fully explain how great it is to see Buddy in his own house. You just have to had been here to feel it, DAMN RIGHT ITS DA BULES AT LEGENDS!!!!!!!! THANKS BUDDY GUY FOR BEING THE REAL DEAL
JANUARY FUN.
Can’t wait to see George again. It should be a good time. It allways is. I wish that Buddy Guy & BB King Show would come to Chicago. How can ya have a great blues show like that and not hit Chicago. I hope I am mistaken. Kansas City, Louisville, Detroit, Washington DC, New York, and Boston. Guess Im going to have to drive. Unless theres a secret show at Legends… I HOPE!!!!!!
g/day first time to u.s on hols from australia was in legends the night of phils wake what a night makes me want to visit every sat night just keep singin the blues awesome cobber
Say the TV spot on Mr. Guy giving to the food shelf. He’s always been my blues hero, but obviously goes far beyond singing and playing the guitar. God Bless you Buddy!
Hey Buddy! saw your show Dec.10, in Tulsa, Ok. excellent show. It was my girlfriends first intro to the blues and she loved it. When you had the audience sing the refrain to skin deep, I listened real hard and heard the audience sing it with real feeling, it was awesome. Keep on bluesin’.
I think it is great that Buddy and Scott Holt are getting back together on the 15th.
buddy played grand rapids -in the 80s and it was outside in a big park…it was so far beyond cool i couldnt tell ya- 50 watt marshall combo and a bluesbird guitar..wound-out. i was floored….he also shook the plaster at club eastbrook in grand rapids..that was a show in the 90s…it was unreal- buddy for prez next time around…fred t.
WOW.. I had forgotten how he just comes in and captures all and plays You like a puppet! Last saw him when I was in New Orleans at Sweet Emma’s Preservation Hall in 73 or 74.

Hey Buddy! I just saw you at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa – incredible show – thank you so much!
Hi,
I’ve been to the Legend last year in Feb. and got a chance to speak to Buddy for the second time.
I was in Legends last year, was there the same day Bootsy was. It was a dream come true to just walk in, I hope to visit again very soon with a friend as a guide that knows Buddy well, maybe I will get to thank him (Buddy) for not only all the music, but for inspiring so many little boys like me to pick up the guitar.
I DO hjope Rich Diamond can help me meet you, and thank you Buddy.
soul to soul,
Jerry
Dear frends, it would be a good time to set up live webcam, so that we on this side of the ocean, enjoyed the live music legend. Best regards from Serbia
I organize the blues group on meetup.com in Chicagoland (along with some other groups)
We had an event last night to see Aron Burton–it was fabulous, not only was Aron great, but Buddy sat in too!
The food was wonderful, the waitstaff attentive…
Nice job!
We’ll be back

Just saw Buddy in Detroit with the Hendrix tribute show.. Unbelieveable! What a great show Catch this show if you like your guitar licks served up smokin hot!
Loved Chicago and loved Buddy’s place. Will be back.
Toronto Canada.
God Bless.
I have never seen Buddy in concert, but, definately on my list of final things to do.If I could see Buddy & BB live, my life would be complete. I love “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” AWESOME! Buddy,Damn Right, one of the best blues men!

I just saw Buddy @ the roots n’ blues and bbq’s fest in Columbia Mo.As usual he put on a fantastic show.He is the best guitarist in the world right now in my opinion. The only negative comment I have is that I wish he would stop trying to play like Jimi Hendrix and just play like who he is.The best damn blues guitarist (or any other genre) in the world. p.s please keep the newsletter coming.I really enjoy it!

Buddy, I got a copy of Skin Deep yesterday. Damn Good Job! You really hit it this time. I fell outta my chair laughing one minute and was crying like a baby the next. This album is what they mean when they talk about feeling the music.
I´m living in Buenos Aires,Argentina.I saw Two Buddy´s shows in 1994 and 1995, were really amazing!,I going to Chicago next 2009 June, there will be some Buddy´s show?.Could somebody tell me wich is the best way to go to Chicago?

Dear Buddy,
I’m very sorry to hear of the passing of your brother. We were at your show in Cincinnati on that fateful day. Please know that you and he are in our prayers.
Phil—-Rest in Peace.
Buddy, I’m sad to here of your brothers untimely passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
He will be missed.

I picked up “Skin Deep” over the weekend, and I thinks it’s Buddy’s best album since “Slippin’ In”. It just cooks from beginning to end.
Hey Buddy,
I was in Chattanooga when I saw you last, you were great. I don’t know why they hurried you up but I was so happy when you came and song to me. I really enjoyed it.

I was watching Glastonbury on TV over the weekend, furious that Buddy was put on so late. He should have headlined the frastival on the main stage, his live performance for me was the best of the weekend.
Hey Everyone!!!! I Was at buddy guys concert in Glasgow on Thursday night!!!! IT WAS F**KING AWSOME! He sure does know how to get the crowds going! and he loves to make an entrance!!! BUDDY GUY FOR EVER!
COME AGAIN SOON BUDDY!!!!
Sorry for double posting, I thought I had to shorten down my comment.. : )

The link is https://www.millerhighlife.com/default.aspx – click on high life extras at the bottom to get in. Let me know if you have trouble finding it.
WOW! Stopped in BUDDY GUYS after 08 Blues Fest @ Grant Park. $2/beer, EXCELLENT entertainment. My husband was on stage with his harp, Buddy Guy autograph, tooooooo cooool. Next trip to Chicago can’t be soon enough and we will be visiting BUDDYS.
Dear Buddy Guy,
I am 19 years old from Birmingham, AL; I will be playing at the upcoming citystages. That same night you will be playing. I am looking forward to meeting you if it is possible. I’ve been playing the blues for two years and you are one of my top influenes. I’ve even been known to jam on some of your songs; I have played with an artist by the name of Scott Holt. Please check me out on Youtube and I’ll see you on the 14th.
p.s. love you man.
Well, I have never been to a Buddy Guy consert and I do not like the blues much. But my boyfriend said I have no clue about music untill I see Buddy perform. So, on June 12th I am going to see buddy. I actuauly can not wait,

Bo Diddley was the man. We will always love and respect him.
I HAD A BLAST PLAYING HARMONICA AT BUDDY’S
BAR A FEW YEARS AGO. IT WAS ‘FREE GUITAR STRING’ NIGHT ANDTHE PLACE WAS JAMMED WITH OVER A HUNDRED GUITAR SLINGERS. THE HOUSE BAND THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE THE ONLY HARP PLAYER IN THE HOUSE COME UP ANF PLAY. WE DID A COUPLE OF GOOD NUMBERS, BUT I NEVER DID GET ANY FREE GUITAR STRINGS!
It’s good to see the Legends website back, even though it’s in a different form. I was surprised the plug was pulled on the old site without warning. Talk about the blues!
HUGE fan! – seen Buddy 8 times but $20 for a shot glass?
Love to visit Legends whenever I am visiting Chicago…simply the best blues venue around. Had the pleasure of seeing Buddy perform in Milwaukee last September. He is a stellar guitarist who is cited as an influence by many musicians including SRV and John Mayer. What a treat it was to see him play!
It’s good to see a Legends website. I missed the old one when the plug was pulled, along with its forum. We’ve got to keep up with Buddy Guy. Another place is: http://www.buddyguy.net.
i wonder if this “new fangled” , “snazzed up” web-site is going to touch on Buddy’s up coming new album release that i read about in Guitar Edge mag. sounds like a goodie
All in all Chi vs Delta cant say overall but BUDDY like Clapton quoted “He’s the greatest guitar player living.” THE BEST
if you fellow blues lovers haven’t already, go out and buy Michael Burks’ Iron Man CD…i don’t think it will be long for this album to make its mark in the blues world. not only his best album yet but one of the best in the blues world today!!!…ROCK ON MICHAEL BURKS…!!!
Great show in Cleveland on 4/8!!!
Love Buddy’s place…seen Lil Ed, and Ron Prince there…had a great time, thanks
smokydogjoe
The new Stones cd is incredible and Buddy Guy’s Champagne and Reefer is steller! Wow!
BIG RIC HALL TIM MARTY SEE YOU IN DALLAS BIGG D.
I just saw Buddy last Saturday in Northampton, MA and I have to say that it was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I loved the way he came into to crowd and just to hear him play sent chills through my spine. He had a 10 year old boy play with him that was phenomenal. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. I can’t wait to see him again.
alright buddy howz ya keepin?am hopin to come over to chicago from greenock scotland,i have always loved your music and i always try to play your songs i love your style bro.well keep jammin and maybe we can play some real deal blues sometime!take care and increase da peace!i am gonna keep rockin the blues right here in scotland.peace…
I’ve been with Buddy and Legends for nearly 20 years. My brother and I used to take the Blue Line (then the A Train) from Oak Park. Hands down, Buddy is my favorite Blues musician. He can still stir me to tears when I’m driving my car alone on a Saturday night.
I HAVE BIG FUN, EVER JANAURY. WITH BUDDY, AND BRAIN,MIKE,HARVEY. LOOKING TO SEE YOU SOON.
nice change but i stand with Redhouse about the discussion forums…i thought we had a good thing goin.
nevertheless i’ve had the pleasure of visiting legends a few years ago. i was excited to finally see Lil’ Ed perform. i had been listening to his band since roughousin’.
I stood next to Buddy and did not dare to talk to him
On the parking at the back i met RBB Ronny Baker Brooks. I asked and got his pick after the performance! This Year (2008) I am looking forward to visit the Legends again, now with 8 friends from Holland (The Netherlands) on the night before this years 25th Chicago bluesfestival. We hope to meet Buddy and hear-see him play the blues.
The site needs plenty of work.. but its getting there. Where is the schedule. Can’t tell who’s playing tonight? If you need any help I would be happy to help.
What happened to the calendar? The first thing i do when visiting Chicago is check that weeks performers. This makes it difficult.
Nice site! But where’s the fan forum???
HI- IVE NEVER BEEN TO THE FAMOUS LEGEND, BUT I HAVE SOME OF BUDDY GUYS CD. IM FROM ALEXANDRIA, LOUISIANA. AND I LOVE BUDDYS MUSIC, DO YOU THINK YOU WILL BE COMMING TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA? if you do please email me ”THANKS IN ADVANCE”RUTH” DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA—MARCH/25/08
